Site specific wall mural by Z'otz* Collective at Arts Sutton Gallery

Exhibition from April 24 to May 30, 2010

The opening will take place Saturday, April 24 at 14 h and the guided tour with the artists Sunday, May 30 at 14 h

The Z'otz * Collective, composed of three Toronto artists of Latin American origin, is widely anticipated at Arts Sutton Gallery from April 24 to May 30, 2010.

In this exhibition, visitors will have a chance to see a large mural in mixed media, including drawing, collage and 3D ceramic objects made by the Collective. The mural was created specifically for a site within the Arts Sutton Gallery, therefore for the public in the region. This work will be erased after transient exposure, thus emphasizing the impermanence and temporality in the creative process. The exhibition will also showcase a collection of drawings and small ceramic miniatures, each being the joint work of the three artists.

If the name Z'otz * Collective, which means bat in Maya surprises you, you'll be just as much surprised by their work and their approach. The humor, spontaneity, inventiveness found in the works, question our aesthetic perceptions, our definition of cultural art. Nonconformist images explore the issue of immigration through the themes of transition, movement and urban life. Their art tells stories of hybrid animals and wild characters that inhabit strange imaginary countries.

The Gallery is located at 7 Academy Street in Sutton. It is open Thursday to Sunday from 11 am to 17 pm
