Quebec’s Waste Reduction Week
Too Good to Waste!
The 9th edition of Quebec’s Waste Reduction Week (QWRW) was held between October 18 and 25.
Residents of the Brome-Missisquoi MRC were invited to make a little extra effort for this “Week.” However, it is important to make efforts throughout the year to reduce the amount of waste produced.
Here are some simple but effective efforts to do during this “Week” and throughout the year:
- Have a “zero waste lunch” day by finding the means to generate no waste during the noon hour and snack times;
- Use cloth bags for groceries, shopping and your lunch;
- Use a washable and reusable cup for your coffee;
- Think to print your documents on both sides;
- Use cloth rags instead of a sheet of paper towel;
- Let your grass and dead leaves compost on the ground and start household composting.
Don’t forget that the easiest waste to handle is that which was never created!
Leaf collection this fall
What to do with your leaves this fall?
1) Use them in your composter bin or offer them to a neighbour who composts;
2) Shred them with your mower and leave them to naturally compost on the ground, in your garden or in your flowerbeds;
3) All through autumn, drop off your leaves, free of charge, loose, in paper or biodegradable bags, at the Régie?s composting platform, located at 2500 Saint-Joseph Road in Cowansville (450 263-2351 for opening hours).
